How to Be Led by God

"Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths." Psalm 25:4

God has given us the freedom to live our lives on earth as we choose. This verse shows us that for God to guide you on your life's journey, you must ask Him and invite Him into your life.

This psalm is a prayer of King David who, despite being given the position of leader of Israel by God, knew that he also needed to be guided. This teaches us that no matter what position we hold, we still need to be taught because there are many things we do not know.

Now let us analyze this prayer. When he says, "O LORD," it shows that this is a prayer directed to God Himself. It is very important in your life to choose who will guide you. David chose God to be the leader of his life, which is why in Psalm 23:1-2 he says, "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters."

When he says, "Show me thy ways," you cannot be led by God if you do not know His ways. The first step to being led by God is to know His ways. So that in your life, when you need something, you know the godly way to get it. For example, if you need a job, you must know the godly way to get that job, so that you are not tempted to use other means to get what you need.

The final part, when he says, "teach me thy paths," is about how you will walk on that path. If God leads you, He will teach you what to do in every challenge you encounter on that path. He will teach you what to do at each step of this journey.

Or even in any matter you undertake, you must know the way of God that He wants you to follow and understand "paths"—how you will walk on that way.

Prayer: O LORD, show me thy ways, teach me thy paths, guide me so that I do not get lost on my journey here on earth. May your Holy Spirit teach and guide me. Amen.
