How to Deal with Anger and Revenge

"Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for [God's] wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay (requite), says the Lord.  Romans 12:19 AMPC

My message today is for you who have been wronged by someone, and you feel like you can take revenge. You have the power, the ability, and maybe you have already decided to act on it. May be you are someone who has endured a lot, and now you feel like you’ve reached the limit of your patience, ready to take action against your enemies, this message is for you.

The last group I’m addressing is those who are habitual revenge-seekers—those who feel the need to retaliate every time someone wrongs them. There are even people who plan long-term revenge against others.

The first thing I want you to know is that revenge damages you personally. You can not take revenge and remain the same. Revenge changes you, making you no different from the person who wronged you, and sometimes it makes you worse than them.

Now, let’s go back to this scripture: “Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, 'Vengeance is mine; I will repay,' says the Lord. But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. By doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:19-21 (NIV)

So, what you need to do is learn humility and follow what is written here. Entrust your enemies to God. He knows how to handle them better than you do. Don’t think that you can take revenge better than God. Do good to everyone, even those who have hurt you.

Also, not every wrong needs revenge. Some people who have wronged you need help, as their souls are trapped by the enemy and are being used to do evil. These people need your help, but although they are doing evil, your love and kindness will give them reason to repent and change. The Word of God says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Prayer: Oh Lord, I ask that you grant me humility and faith, so I can allow You to fight against all my enemies. Amen.
