A CALL TO LIVE FOR OTHER
No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. 1 Corinthians 10:24 NIV
This verse reminds us of an essential truth: life is not about putting ourselves first. God calls us to care for others, consider their needs, and ensure our actions bring help, not harm. Yet, in today’s world, selfishness and greed often dominate.
We see it everywhere—people driven by self-interest, ignoring how their actions impact others. Business decisions prioritize profit over people, leaving workers exploited and communities harmed. The Bible warns about this in 1 Timothy 6:10: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” When we love money more than people, we lose sight of what matters most.
Selfishness is just as destructive. Many focus only on their own comfort, goals, and success, without asking how their choices affect others. This mindset causes pain—broken relationships, lost trust, and damaged lives. A selfish or greedy heart ignores the harm it creates, seeking only personal gain. Philippians 2:3-4 reminds us: “In humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.”
The Bible warns that selfishness and greed will increase in the last days. 2 Timothy 3:1-2 says, “There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive...” As followers of Christ, we are called to live differently.
Jesus teaches us to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). When we love others, we treat them with kindness, fairness, and respect. We don’t harm others to get ahead; instead, we serve and give, just as Jesus did.
Ask yourself daily: Am I putting others first? Are my actions driven by love or by selfishness? Matthew 6:24 reminds us: “You cannot serve both God and money.” If your focus is on money or personal gain, you cannot fully follow God.
Instead, follow Jesus’ example. He came not to be served, but to serve. He gave His life for others. We are called to live like Him—serving, giving, and loving selflessly.
Prayer: Thank You Jesus for teaching me to care for others. Help me to overcome selfishness, greed, and pride. Teach me to value people more than money and to act out of love and kindness. Amen.
