CHOOSE PEACE OVER CONFLICT

Foolish people are always fighting, but avoiding quarrels will bring you honor. Proverbs 20:3 NCV

Many conflicts start over small misunderstandings, but God calls us to a better way—the way of peace. You are called to be a peacemaker, not someone who stirs up strife. Quarreling and fighting do not bring any good; instead, they damage relationships, create divisions, and steal your peace.

You may have encountered situations where people provoke you, speak harsh words, or try to engage you in conflicts. These are moments when your wisdom and self-control are tested. Anyone can start a quarrel—it requires no special skill or strength. But choosing to walk away from unnecessary arguments requires true wisdom and discipline.

One of the biggest challenges to avoiding quarrels is controlling your anger. Anger, if not managed properly, leads to harsh words, bitterness, and broken relationships.

"So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God." – James 1:19-20 (NKJV)

When you allow anger to control your actions, you move away from the righteousness that God desires. Instead, take time to pause and think before responding. A calm response can defuse a heated situation and reflect the character of Christ.

Controlling anger is not always easy, but we are not left to do it alone. The Holy Spirit is our helper, equipping us with patience and self-control in moments of tension. Galatians 5:22-23 says "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

When you feel the urge to react in anger or engage in a quarrel, ask the Holy Spirit to give you patience and wisdom. By yielding to Him, you develop the ability to walk away from unnecessary conflicts and choose peace.

Living in peace with others is a sign of true spiritual maturity. Romans 12:18 says "If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men." You may not always control how others behave, but you can control your response. When you choose peace over strife, you reflect the character of Christ and become a witness of His love.

Choose today to let the Holy Spirit guide your words and actions, bringing peace into every situation. When you choose peace, you choose wisdom, honor, and a life that glorifies God.

*Prayer:* Heavenly Father, thank You for Your wisdom that teaches me to avoid quarrels and fights. Give me self-control to manage my anger and the strength to walk away from unnecessary conflicts. Let me be an instrument of peace in my family, workplace, and community. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
