DO NOT SEEK REVENGE: HUMILITY BEFORE GOD IS WHAT WILL GIVE YOU VICTORY
"Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you." Proverbs 20:22 NIV
God has said many times in His Word that we should not repay evil for evil, and we should not take revenge. In today's verse, He tells us: "Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!”"
But in real life, we still see people taking revenge, and maybe you too, in one way or another, have paid back evil with evil. So why do you find it hard to let go and forgive when you are wronged? It is because you lack humility.
Humility means seeing yourself as small and not more important than others. It means being willing to be under authority and obey instructions.
When you lack humility, you think you can do everything by yourself, even the things that God has told you not to do. (You take matters into your own hands.) You become a person who does not accept defeat. So when someone wrongs you, you feel the need to fight back because you cannot accept losing.
But the truth is, you cannot defeat evil with evil. The Word of God says:
"Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house." Proverbs 17:13 (NKJV)
When God tells you not to repay evil, it is for your own good. He is protecting you from more trouble.
So when you are humble, you give the matter to God and believe that He has the power and strength to take revenge on your enemy. God knows how to deal with that person in the right way, and in a way that you will not be involved.
Your victory comes when you choose to be humble and let God fight your battle.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, today I choose to humble myself before You and hand over all my enemies to You so that You may fight them for me.
