DO NOT SPREAD LIES OR DEFEND THE GUILTY

“Do not spread false rumors, and do not help a guilty person by giving false testimony.” (Exodus 23:1, NKJV)

This verse begins with a strong and direct warning. God Himself forbids you from spreading false reports. There is no need for further proof—this is clearly a sin in the eyes of God. Not only does He prohibit spreading lies, but also partnering with the wicked in giving false testimony. In other words, if you're reading this message, understand that it’s a divine call to repentance in this area.

We live in a digital age—a world dominated by social media. Every day, countless stories flash before your eyes. People accept and believe everything they hear or read without verifying its truth. But the greater danger is when you find yourself forwarding, sharing, or reposting things you haven't confirmed to be true. You know what? God is watching. And when falsehood passes through your hands, you become part of that sin.

There are even those who go further—they create lies. It begins at home, at work, or in everyday relationships. Perhaps you have a conflict with someone, you dislike that person, or is your open enemy. Then you fabricate a story against that person or false accusations to destroy his/her reputation. This happens even in our offices you use your position or power to create false faults and errors against your opponents. This is great wickedness before God. God is not only looking at your prayers or offerings—He also watches how you treat others, especially those you consider your “enemies.”

Sometimes, you hear that someone is going through a tough situation, and instead of staying silent or praying for them, you joyfully spread the bad news, claiming, “God is punishing them.” Yet, you don’t even know if the story is true. You may be seriously offending God without realizing it.

Lastly, do not defend someone who clearly did something wrong. Don't give false testimony in their defence—even if this person is your close friend or relative. Don’t turn a blind eye simply because you have a close relationship with this person. Our God is a God of justice, and He expects you to stand for what is right at all times. If you defend wrongdoing, you contribute to the sin and risk both your integrity and the salvation of the person you are defending because he will not repent. Know this: repenting is accepting your mistakes and apologizing, not the other way around.

Some defend evil just to gain favor, avoid rejection, or secure certain opportunities. But you—stand firm. Speak the truth even if it costs you, even if it leads to rejection or mockery. God, who examines hearts, will see your stand, bless you, and promote you.

This word is for you. Reflect on your life. If there’s any place you’ve fallen short, repent now. Do not spread falsehood, and do not defend the guilty. Stand for the truth, and God will stand for you.

Prayer: O God of justice and truth, help me not to spread lies or support evil. Fill me with boldness to stand for what is right at all times. Amen.
