THINK RIGHT, LIVE FREE: THE POWER OF A RENEWED MIND

In Romans 6:11 (GNT), Paul says, “In the same way you are to think of yourselves as dead, so far as sin is concerned, but living in fellowship with God through Christ Jesus.”

This verse exposes a deep spiritual truth: the way you live in your physical body depends on how you think. You must first see yourself in your mind as someone who is dead to sin and alive to God through Christ. Your mentality shapes your actions, your habits, and ultimately, the condition of your body.

From verses 11 to 13, Paul continues to explain the importance of this mindset. He says in Romans 6:12 (GNT), “Sin must no longer rule in your mortal bodies, so that you obey the desires of your natural self.” This means you must take responsibility not to let sin reign. How? By changing how you think. If your mind accepts that sin still has power over you, then your body will follow that thinking, and sinful desires will take control.

In Romans 6:13 (GNT), Paul adds, “Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.” Surrender starts in the mind. When your mentality is rooted in the truth that you have been brought from death to life through Jesus, you will begin to take charge of your body. You will stop offering your hands, eyes, or thoughts to sin, and instead, use them to glorify God.

But if you think of yourself as weak, defeated, and under the control of sin, then sin will have dominion over you. Your mindset opens the door. If you believe you are still a slave to sin, then you will act like one. But if you renew your mind and see yourself as free, you will walk in that freedom, and your body will reflect that liberty.

So take care of your mindset. Renew it with God's Word daily. See yourself as victorious in Christ, and your body will follow the pattern of your thoughts.

Prayer: Lord, help me think right, live free from sin, and surrender my whole body to honor You every day. In Jesus’ Name.
