BE MERCIFUL AND FORGIVE YOUR ENEMIES
Luke 6:36 (NKJV): “Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.”
This verse reminds us that we are called to live like God, our Father. He is full of mercy, love, and forgiveness. Since we are created in His image, we are expected to carry His nature. That means we must also show mercy to others, even to those who hurt or offend us.
God has been merciful to us many times. He forgave our sins, even when we did not deserve it. That same mercy we received must be passed on to others. The Bible says in Matthew 5:71, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” If we want God to show us mercy, we must show mercy to others.
Also, in Luke 6:31, Jesus said, “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.” This teaches us to treat others the way we want to be treated. If you want to be forgiven, forgive others. If you want kindness, be kind.
Another important truth is found in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” If you sow mercy, you will reap mercy. If you sow forgiveness, you will reap forgiveness.
Forgiving your enemies can be hard, especially when the pain is deep. But don’t try to do it alone. Ask God to help you. Tell Him your struggle and invite His Spirit to give you the strength to let go of the hurt. God understands your pain, and He is always ready to help you.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be merciful and forgive others, just as You forgave me.
