HONORING YOUR PARENTS

Proverbs 20:20 (NKJV) says, "Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

This is a serious warning from God. Many people are talented, skilled, and full of great ideas. They were born with special gifts from God. But sadly, some of these people live without success or peace. Why? One big reason is dishonoring their parents.

God gave your parents a special position in your life. They are not just the ones who raised you—they carry spiritual authority. This authority allows them to bless your life or speak words that can affect your future. When you dishonor them, you are fighting the order God set for your destiny.

The Bible says that if you curse your parents, your “light” will be put out. That light represents your unique abilities, your purpose, or the favor God placed on you. If you choose to disrespect your parents, that light will stop shining. You may lose your way in life when you need your gift the most. In your prime—when everything should be working—you may face shame, failure, or loss.

Many people are in total darkness today. They are confused, stuck, and don’t understand why nothing is working. It may be because of something they said or did to their parents in the past.

If you want your light to keep shining, honor your parents. Even if they were not perfect, respect them. Forgive them. Bless them. Be kind. Your future depends on it.

Prayer: Lord, help me honor my parents so my light will never be put out.
