YOU MUST HONOR THE VOWS YOU MADE TO GOD

Ecclesiastes 5:4 (NIV) — "When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow."

A vow is a promise, commitment, or pledge we make before the Almighty. In biblical times, vows were not casual words — they were sacred commitments. To make a vow and fail to fulfill it is seen by God as foolishness. This is because God values integrity, faithfulness, and honesty. If we cannot keep our word to Him, it reflects a heart that does not truly fear or honor Him.

When you promise God something — whether in prayer, during a crisis, or out of gratitude — He expects you to keep it. It could be a promise to serve Him faithfully, to give an offering, to change your ways, or to dedicate your time and gifts to His work.

Many times, we make promises to God in moments of desperation. We say things like, “Lord, if You heal me, I will serve You all my life,” or “God, if You bless me with this job, I will give You my first fruits.” But after God answers, some people forget, delay, or simply ignore the vow.

The Bible warns that God has no pleasure in fools — meaning, He is displeased when we take Him lightly. Breaking a vow is a form of disrespect.

A good example is Hannah in 1 Samuel 1. She vowed that if God gave her a son, she would dedicate him to the Lord. When God blessed her with Samuel, she fulfilled her vow completely. Because of her faithfulness, God blessed her even more.

Another side is seen in Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5. They made a vow to give the full price of their land to God but kept part back. This brought severe judgment.

Fulfilling your vow shows that you value God’s faithfulness to you and that you honor Him with your word. If you have delayed or forgotten your vows, today is the day to remember and fulfill them. God blesses those who keep their word.

Prayer: Lord, help me keep every promise I make to You with faithfulness and integrity.
