GRACE TO DEAL WITH LIFE CRISIS – BETRAYAL AND BROKEN TRUST
Matthew 10:21 (NIV) says: “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.”
Betrayal is not something new, it has existed even within the closest human relationships like family. Betrayal is one of life’s deepest wounds because it comes from those we trust the most. When someone you love and rely upon breaks that trust, the pain is hard to explain.
Today we are starting a series on how to deal with different crises in life. The first crisis that God placed in my heart is betrayal and broken promises. Betrayal is a psychosocial crisis because it disrupts both social relationships and psychological well being. It attacks our emotions and destroys our ability to relate with others freely. Without the help of God, it is very hard for a normal human being to handle this kind of crisis.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:16 (NIV): “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” This means that betrayal is part of our life’s journey, but with wisdom and innocence we can overcome it. Many ask, “Why did God allow it?” Even prayerful people have been betrayed. One woman once told me her husband betrayed her and left her, even though she believed God gave her a sign he was the right man.
You must know betrayal is not always because you made a mistake. It doesn’t mean you are a bad person. Sometimes God allows it for a greater reason. Many times betrayal removes the wrong people from our lives. A right person will not betray you. Those who betray you are only showing their true selves.
The secret is to let go and forgive. Do not hold bitterness; it limits God from lifting you higher. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you strength, heal your heart, and wash away the pain with the blood of Jesus. Forgiveness is freedom. Do not allow the memory of betrayal to live rent-free in your heart. Instead, trust God’s plan, for in the end, His plans are always good.
Prayer: Lord, give me strength to forgive, heal my heart, and guide me through betrayal into your perfect will.
