OBEY GOD NOT MEN

Acts 5:29 NKJV Says; "But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: ‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’"

When the apostles were ordered by the Jewish leaders to stop preaching in the name of Jesus, Peter boldly declared that God’s command was greater than human authority. This shows us a principle: human orders can never override divine instructions. Obedience to God comes before obedience to men. God is the ultimate authority, and when man’s command contradicts God’s will, the believer must choose God without fear.

Yesterday we learned about not living to please men, and today the Holy Spirit is teaching us about obedience. Pleasing and obedience may look alike but they are different. Pleasing is when you do something for people to applaud or appreciate you. Obedience is when you submit to their command.

So, Acts 5:29 can also be read as: “You must submit yourself under God’s command rather than men’s.”

Now ask yourself: who is telling you what to do in your life? Are you living under the command of your parents, your friends, your boss, or your own desires? If what they ask agrees with God’s Word, you can obey. But if it is against God’s will, you must stand firm in obedience to God.

The Bible says in Ephesians 6:1 NKJV, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” Notice the phrase “in the Lord.” This means obedience to parents or leaders is only right when it aligns with God’s Word.

So make God your Lord and obey Him only. Do not let anyone intimidate you or force you into becoming their subject against God’s will. Pray for courage and boldness to stand strong in obedience to God, no matter the cost.

As we close this subject of living for God, I pray you will choose obedience to God over men every day of your life. Amen.

Prayer: Lord, give me boldness to obey You always, even when men oppose or misunderstand me.
