HOLY SPIRIT CONVICT YOU OF YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS NOT YOUR SIN

John 16:8 NKJV says, “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”

This verse is often misunderstood, yet it reveals one of the most important ministries of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was teaching His disciples about the work the Spirit would perform after His ascension. The word “convict” means to reveal truth, to show the real condition, and to expose what is hidden so that a person can respond to God. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin because the world has rejected Jesus. He convicts the world of righteousness because Jesus has gone to the Father, and He convicts the world of judgment because the ruler of this world is already judged.

Many people think the Holy Spirit came to constantly tell them how wrong they are or to remind them of their sins. That is not true. The Holy Spirit never came to accuse you. He convicts the world of sin, but when it comes to the believer His work is different. He convicts you of your righteousness in Christ. When condemnation tries to rise in your heart, the Spirit reminds you of who you are in Jesus, how forgiven you are, how deeply loved you are, and how precious you are before God.

There is also confusion between condemnation and conviction. Jesus did not say, “He will condemn the world,” but “He will convict.” Condemnation only shows you how bad you are and leaves you feeling hopeless. It makes your condition worse and brings fear, shame, and distance from God. Conviction, however, shows the holiness, grace, and love of God and leads you back to Him. A good example is Isaiah 6. When Isaiah saw the glory of God, the glory revealed his weakness, and he responded with repentance. He was not destroyed, he was restored. That is what conviction does.

When the Holy Spirit convicts the world, He leads people to repentance. But the Bible says you are not of this world. You are in Christ and clothed with His righteousness. Therefore, you are not under the same conviction as the world. You are already made righteous by the blood of Jesus.

From today, refuse the lies of the enemy especially those that condemn you when you pray and make you feel like God has rejected you. That voice is not the Holy Spirit. Anything that condemns you is not from God. You are forgiven, washed, accepted, and righteous in Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me walk in my righteousness and reject every voice of condemnation.
