TAKE ON THE LEGACY – START PRACTICING WHAT YOU'VE LEARNT

Philippians 4:9 NIV says, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Paul was not just a teacher; he was a mentor who lived by example. He taught, demonstrated, and modeled a lifestyle worthy of imitation. The Philippians were not just called to listen or admire Paul, but to practice what they had learned from him. The secret to growth is not only learning but also doing. Paul says, “put it into practice,” meaning, act on what you have seen and heard. When you start practicing what your mentor has taught you, the peace and presence of God will back you up.

The purpose of mentorship is so that you can take on the legacy of your mentor and continue the good work he was doing. Every true mentor imparts principles, character, and lifestyle so that their follower may continue their mission.

Jesus Himself said, “The Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing” (John 5:19 NKJV). If we talk about mentorship in the life of Jesus, we can say He was perfectly mentored by His Father. He became the true reflection of the Father. He took on His Father’s legacy and continued His work on earth.

The goal of mentorship is to make you like your mentor and to equip you to do what he does. Paul was telling the Philippians, “I have mentored you enough; now start practicing.” You cannot become like your mentor in one day, and you cannot perfectly do what he does overnight. You must keep practicing until you master it. Don’t give up when you fail; even your mentor once failed and learned through the process.

You must be able to do what your mentor does and aim to do it even better. That’s how we grow in ministry, career, and talent. Practicing what you’ve learned is the secret to excellence, and when you do, God Himself will help you.

Prayer: Lord, help me to practice what I’ve learned and walk faithfully in the legacy of my mentor.
