SKILLS TO WIN OUR SPIRITUAL BATTLES
Psalm 144:1 NKJV says, “Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle.”
David did not only praise God as his Rock. He also honored God as his Trainer. David understood that victory does not come by desire alone. It comes through preparation. God was the One who trained his hands and fingers. This means God taught him how to fight, how to stand, and how to win. David knew that his success in battle was not accidental. It was the result of divine training and God given skill.
It is a popular and common understanding that to win any battle you need power. Many believers pray daily asking God for power. Power is important and necessary. But very few people pray for skills. Power without skills is dangerous and ineffective. A strong person without training can still lose a fight. In the same way spiritual power without spiritual skill leads to confusion, delay, and defeat.
David knew that his victory in every battle came from the skills and training God gave him. God did not only give him strength. God gave him wisdom, strategy, patience, and timing. That is why David won battles others could not win. He understood when to fight, how to fight, and when to wait. These are skills that come from God.
When you face any challenge in life, the first thing you should ask God for is skill. Ask Him for understanding. Ask Him for direction. Ask Him to train you. Skills help you use power correctly. Skills help you avoid unnecessary battles. Skills help you finish battles quickly and wisely.
In the Old Testament, many leaders and kings of Israel asked God for direction before going to war. They wanted to know where to go, when to go, and how to fight. Sometimes God told them to attack directly. Sometimes He told them to wait. Sometimes He gave them unusual strategies. Their victories came because they followed God’s instruction.
The same applies to you today. Make skills your priority. Ask God to train you and give you skills to win battles. Some battles are won by wisdom. Some are won by being still. Others are won by humility and obedience. Not every battle is won by shouting or confrontation. Some battles are won by understanding and correct response.
Jesus Himself showed this truth. In Luke 4, when He was tested by the devil, He did not win because of outward power or dramatic action. He won because He understood the Scriptures. He knew what the Word of God said about every temptation. His victory came through knowledge, wisdom, and correct use of truth. That is what we call skills.
Therefore, ask God for skills to win your battles. Let Him train your hands, your mind, and your heart. With divine skills and God given power, victory becomes certain.
Prayer: Lord, train my hands and heart with skills to win every spiritual battle.
