DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE A JEALOUS PERSON
James 3:16 (NCV) says, “Where jealousy and selfishness are, there will be confusion and every kind of evil.”
This verse reveals the dangerous nature of jealousy. It does not stand alone. It works together with selfishness, and the result is confusion and all kinds of evil. This means where jealousy is present, peace disappears, order is broken, and harmful actions begin to grow.
Jealousy is not something new. It is an old and destructive spirit that existed from the very beginning. In the book of Genesis, we see the story of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:3–8). Cain became jealous of his younger brother Abel because God accepted Abel’s offering and not his. Instead of correcting himself, Cain allowed jealousy to grow in his heart. That jealousy led him to kill his own brother. This shows how powerful and dangerous jealousy can be.
Imagine the destructive power of a jealous spirit. Once a person is controlled by jealousy, there is no limit to what they can do. Jealousy blinds the mind, hardens the heart, and pushes a person toward evil actions. That is why God is warning us not only to avoid having this spirit, but also to be careful around people who have it.
Jealousy has destroyed families. Brothers and sisters fight, betray each other, and even harm one another because of envy. It has destroyed marriages. If a jealous person is close to your marriage, even as a friend or relative they can plant lies, create confusion, and cause division. Their goal is to destroy what they envy.
The Bible says, “Where jealousy and selfishness are, there will be confusion and every kind of evil.” I want you to notice the phrase “every kind of evil.” This means jealousy and selfishness attract all forms of wrongdoing. There is no limit to the damage they can cause. They are like magnets that pull in conflict, lies, hatred, and destruction.
Now ask yourself: Are these spirits present around you? In your family? Among your children? In your church, your workplace, or your circle of friends? If you notice jealousy and selfishness, be very cautious. Do not ignore it.
If someone close to you shows strong jealousy, I advise you to distance yourself from that person. This does not mean hatred, it means wisdom. A jealous person will not rest until they harm what they envy. If they cannot destroy what you have, they will destroy you. Even if they pretend to love or care for you.
Most importantly, guard your own heart. Do not allow jealousy to grow in you. Celebrate others. Be thankful for what God has given you.
Ask God to protect you from jealous people and to keep your heart clean. Peace comes where jealousy is removed.
Prayer: Lord, protect me from jealousy and keep my heart pure and thankful always.
