My Eyes Are Fixed on You, Lord
“But my eyes are upon You, O GOD the Lord; in You I take refuge; do not leave my soul destitute.” (NKJV)
The psalmist is surrounded by pressure, danger, and temptation, yet instead of being ruled by fear or the flesh, he makes a powerful spiritual choice: he lifts his eyes to God. He does not look at the circumstances, he does not look at people, he does not focus on closed doors… he looks to the Lord.
This is the difference between living in the flesh and walking in the Spirit: when everything shakes around you, your heart remains fixed on God. The spiritual eyes of the believer must stay focused on the throne, not on the chaos.
David says, “In You I take refuge.”
True Pentecostal faith is not temporary emotion, but total dependence on the Holy Spirit. It is continuing to trust when you still see no answer. It is praying while the battle is still raging. It is worshiping while heaven seems silent.
Then he cries out: “Do not leave my soul destitute.”
Here we see the heart of a man who understands his own weakness. A Spirit-filled believer does not live in spiritual pride, but in continual dependence on the grace of God. Peter fell when he stopped watching and praying. Samson lost his strength when he drifted from God’s presence. But those who cling to the Lord will be preserved.
This Psalm teaches us that protection does not come from human strength, but from keeping our eyes on God. When your eyes are fixed on Jesus, the enemy cannot easily drag you into despair, sin, or confusion.
Today the Holy Spirit is looking for believers whose eyes are lifted up, whose hearts are surrendered, and whose trust in the Lord is unshakable. Even if you are walking through a valley, do not turn your gaze away. God will never abandon the soul that takes refuge in Him.
