GOD'S PRESENCE IS WITH YOU
"Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” Genesis 28:16 NKJV
This verse tells the story of Jacob’s dream about a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels going up and down. When Jacob woke, he realized something profound—God had been with him all along, but he hadn’t noticed. How often does that happen in our own lives? God is near, yet we fail to recognize His presence.
God isn’t like the objects we see around us. He doesn’t move from one place to another; He is everywhere at all times. Jeremiah 23:24 says, “Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him? Do not I fill heaven and earth?” God holds the universe in His hands, and His presence surrounds us every moment.
So why do we sometimes feel distant from Him? It’s not because He moves away, but because our sins, worries, and distractions cloud our awareness of Him. As Isaiah 59:2 says, “Your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you.”
The good news is, no matter how far you feel, you can always draw closer to God. You don’t need to go somewhere special to find Him—He’s already with you. All you have to do is open your heart and ask Him to help you sense His presence.
When Jacob woke up, he didn’t say, “God just arrived here.” He said, “God is in this place.” God had been with him the whole time—Jacob just hadn’t seen it. The same is true for us. Wherever you are, God is there too. Whether you’re at home, at work, or feeling completely alone, He is present. Jesus reassures us in Matthew 28:20, “Surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
David also captures this truth in Psalm 139:7-10:
"Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, You are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there Your hand will guide me."
Prayer: Dear God, Thank You for always being near, even when I don’t notice You. Open my heart to feel Your presence and draw closer to You. Remove anything in my life that keeps me distant from You. Help me trust in Your promise that You are always with me, and teach me to live each day in the comfort of that truth.
Amen.
