THE BENEFITS OF BEING HUMBLE & MEEK
“But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” – Psalm 37:11 (NKJV)
The inheritance of the earth and abundant peace is a great promise from God to those with a humble heart. While the world may see meek people as weak, the Bible reveals that they are the true heirs of God’s blessings. Meekness is an inner character that reflects humility, patience, and obedience to God.
In the context of Psalm 37, David encourages believers not to lose heart when they see the wicked prospering. Instead, he urges them to be patient and meek, trusting in God. Meekness is not fear or weakness but the ability to be guided by spiritual discipline. A meek person is not someone who cannot defend themselves but rather someone who chooses to submit to God’s will instead of following their own desires.
What Does the Bible Say About the Meek?
1. The Bible Emphasizes That Meekness Pleases God
Jesus is the perfect example of meekness. That’s why He said: “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Matthew 11:29 (NKJV)
Jesus demonstrated His meekness by humbling Himself before God and serving humanity with love. He endured suffering, insults, and even death on the cross but never lost His meekness. As a believer, you are called to follow His example by having a meek heart.
2. “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6 (NKJV)
While the proud seek their own glory, God resists and brings them down. But to the humble, He gives grace and favor. When you choose meekness, you allow God's grace to work in your life.
3. Meekness Leads to God’s Promotion
Jesus said:
When you humble yourself before God and people, He will lift you up in His perfect time. “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” – Luke 14:11 (NKJV)
4. Meekness Brings Peace
In a world filled with violence, hatred, and hardened hearts, meekness brings peace. The Bible says: “Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” – Ephesians 4:3 (NKJV)
By being meek, you become an instrument of peace, a person who builds rather than destroys, and someone who is filled with God’s blessings and abundant peace.
Prayer: Lord of mercy, help me to have a meek heart like Christ. Fill me with humility, patience, and wisdom so that I may walk in Your ways. Give me the grace to let go of pride and remain silent even when I feel the urge to defend myself in anger. Lead me, O Lord, so that I may be an instrument of peace and love in the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
