THE MONTH OF EROS
Understanding Eros
Eros, the Greek term for passionate love, is beautifully reflected in human relationships. Yet, the Bible invites us to discover a deeper, divine dimension of love, embodied in God Himself. In our search for guidance, we often turn to the relationships of others for advice. While well-intentioned, this can sometimes lead us astray, moving us away from God’s word and His plan for perfect relationships. We must remember that the ultimate model of love is right before us in the Holy Trinity. It embodies the profound power of oneness, unwavering commitment, and deep understanding. The Trinity is not just a theological concept but a living example of perfect love, inviting us to align our relationships with divine wisdom.
By embracing the teachings and love demonstrated within the Trinity, we open ourselves to building relationships that reflect God’s intended harmony and joy. Let us look to this divine example and transform our relationships into ones of true unity and fulfillment.
The Holy Trinity: The Eternal Relationship of Love
The Holy Trinity — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — stands as the ultimate example of love in all its forms:
• Father's Self-Giving: The Father loves the Son entirely, showing pure generosity.
• Son's Faithful Love: The Son reflects this love through obedience and sacrifice.
• Spirit’s Unifying Love: The Holy Spirit expresses the bond of communion.
In romantic relationships, echoes of Trinitarian love can be found:
- Selflessness: True love gives without expecting in return, just as the Father gives the Son (John 3:16).
- Faithfulness: Romantic love thrives on commitment and sacrifice.
- Unity: The Spirit binds relationships in harmony and shared purpose.
“Love one another as I have loved you.” — John 15:12
“Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14
Embracing God’s Love in Our Relationships
As we celebrate the Month of Eros, let's remember that the journey to loving fully begins with experiencing the boundless love of God. Before diving into romantic love, grounding ourselves in His eternal love enriches our relationships and fills them with depth and meaning.
1. Grounded in Faith: God’s unwavering love is the anchor for all relationships. His steadfast presence gives us the strength to love others deeply.
2. Overflowing Love: When we soak in God’s love, it naturally overflows into our relationships, allowing us to love fully and selflessly.“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end.” — Lamentations 3:22
“God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” — 1 John 4:16
3. Selfless Acts: Love calls us to reflect the selflessness of Jesus, who showed us the ultimate act of love through His sacrifice.
“Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” — 1 John 3:16
4. Daily Expressions: Every day provides opportunities to show God’s love through acts of kindness, patience, and forgiveness.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4
By drawing close to God’s love, we learn to embody the unity, commitment, and sacrifice demonstrated in the Trinity within our romantic relationships. Let us strive to love deeply, faithfully, and selflessly.
How do I know it is true love?
1. Boundaries and Understanding: In any healthy relationship, setting clear boundaries helps maintain respect and mutual understanding. For example, respecting each other’s time and personal space ensures that both partners feel valued.
• Bible Verse: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23
2. Obedience: Obedience in love means adhering to shared values and promises. Just as we strive to obey God’s commandments, we honor commitments to our partners by being truthful and faithful.
• Bible Verse: “If you love me, keep my commands.” — John 14:15
3. Patience: Bearing in mind that everyone has faults, patience allows us to nurture love without hurried judgments or anger. When disagreements arise, practicing patience can transform conflicts into opportunities for growth.
• Bible Verse: “Love is patient, love is kind.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4
A Heartfelt Prayer: Let’s invite God into our hearts and relationships, asking for His guidance to love as He loves:
Heavenly Father, help us to love others with the depth and beauty of Your love. May our relationships reflect Your divine unity and sacrifice. Fill us with Your love, so that we may pour it out to others. Amen.
Let this month be a time to open our hearts to God’s love, trusting that He will guide us in loving our partners deeply and truly..
yours faithfully,
Lorraine ❤️
