YOUR HELP COMES FROM GOD

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1-2)

Psalm 121 is one of the special psalms sung by people traveling to worship God at His temple in Jerusalem. They would sing these psalms as they climbed the steps to enter the Lord’s temple. In Hebrew, these psalms are called "Shir Hama'alot (שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת)," meaning "Song of the Steps" or "Song of Going Up"—songs of ascending to worship God.

The city of Jerusalem is surrounded by mountains. Psalm 125:2 says: "As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people, now and forever."  In the Bible, mountains have different meanings. But in this psalm, mountains represent stability and protection.

In your life, you may also have "mountains" around you—things or people with power and resources who can help or protect you from trouble. However, your trust should not be in them; it should be in God.

God should be the source of your help. It does not matter what you rely on—your position, money, knowledge, or skills. Some people have wealthy or influential friends and relatives. They may have power and ability, but God alone should be your ultimate source of help.

If you are facing a challenge today and need help, I encourage you to lift your eyes to God, not to the mountains. Every time you have a need, you decide whom to turn to first.

If you have been depending on someone or something else, turn your heart toward God and trust Him. Pray to Him first before going to anyone else for help. There are times when people and money will fail, but God never fails.

Prayer: "I lift my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. LORD, You are my protector; keep me from all harm now and forever. Amen."
