WISE PEOPLE SEEK ADVICE BEFORE DECIDING

Proverbs 11:14 NKJV says, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”

God created us to walk in wisdom, but part of that wisdom is learning from others. The word “counsel” means guidance, instruction, or advice. When people make decisions without counsel, they expose themselves to danger, confusion, and unnecessary mistakes. But when they humble themselves and listen to wise, godly voices, they find protection, direction, and clarity. God often uses people to bring answers, warnings, and insight. That is why the Bible teaches that there is safety when we allow others to speak into our lives.

Sometimes it is very important to seek help or deeper understanding of a situation from wise and experienced people. God has placed His wisdom in different people on earth. No one has all the answers. Some people carry a grace, knowledge, and understanding that you may not have. Seeking their counsel can save you from years of pain, wrong decisions, and losses.

Asking for advice does not mean you ignore God or the Holy Spirit. Instead, it means you recognize that the same Spirit who lives in you has also gifted others with wisdom. It means you honor the gift that God gave them. God uses people to strengthen, correct, and guide us.

In the Old Testament, Moses was a great man of God, yet he still needed advice. In Exodus 18:13–24, his father-in-law Jethro saw that Moses was overworking himself by handling every case in the nation of Israel alone. Jethro advised him to appoint capable men to help judge the people. Moses listened, accepted the advice, and God supported the idea.

In the New Testament, Apostle Paul, who saw Jesus face-to-face and received the Gospel directly from Him, still sought counsel. After years of ministry, he went to Jerusalem to meet Peter, James, and John to confirm that the message he preached was correct. Galatians 2:1–10 NKJV shows that they supported him, encouraged him, and reminded him to remember the poor.

If Moses and Paul needed advice, how much more do you? Before marriage, partnerships, business decisions, or major life choices, seek counsel from trusted, reputable, and wise people. Many problems could be avoided if you asked for advice. Even what troubles you today, someone already has the answer. Ask God to guide you to the right person.

Prayer: Lord, give me humility and wisdom to seek and follow godly counsel
